Thank You from Joe Wright

JOE WRIGHT sent this handwritten thank you after receiving the first Quorum Scholarship Fund this year. It was the largest scholarship ever awarded by PFund.

Dear everyone at Quorum:

Being a gay teenager has made me the person I am today. I wouldn't have had to struggle with my own identity as I have had to do and I am thankful. Some people say it is harder to be homosexual and they wouldn't wish it upon another. I, however, could not imagine living a heterosexual life: I am gay, it is who I am.

My mom always says I have made huge leaps for the GLBTA community for the suburbanite Eden Prairie. Through your aid in furthering my education, it has only made these observations more concrete.

On another note, I am pleased to inform you all that I will be attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. I was accepted late due to the five-thousand extra applications they received. I plan to further my activism through my college years, for they are supposedly the best.

In truth, I can't find the right words to express my gratitude to both your organization and to PFund for bringing all of us together. I feel extremely privileged and am so very thankful for your generousness and never-ending kindness.

Sincerely, Joe Wright

Park House Holiday Benefit:

PARK HOUSE, a structured day health/mental day treatment program serving the Twin Cities' adult HIV/AIDS community, will be reviving its annual holiday party on December 1st-World AIDS Day-the 11th anniversary of its opening. The beautifully restored 1900's Crosby Mansion on Park Ave and 22nd Street, decked in full holiday regalia, provides the perfect setting for this seasonal bash that includes both a silent and live auction, raffle, exciting local entertainment (with a few surprise guests, and an extensive buffet, wine and spirits). Come ring in the holidays and help raise money for this wonderful organization. For tickets, please contact: Shannon Regan at 612-871-1264.

Rainbow Families Gala

RAINBOW FAMILIES inaugurates its first annual Fall Colors Masquerade Gala on Saturday October 13 at Solera Restaurant in downtown, Minneapolis. The evening fundraiser will unfold with dancing, hors d'oeuvres, music, and an eclectic mix of live entertainment, silent and live auction, and other festivities. Attendees are encouraged to wear semi-formal attire--masks are encouraged. A VIP event starting at 5:30pm features Spanish tapas, wine tasting, and special entertainment (tickets $125 for both VIP event and Gala). The gala follows at 7:30 and welcomes supporters and friends to enjoy local entertainers Drew Jansen, Ann Michels, Tom Linker, Sonja Thompson, Thomasina Petrus, and more (tickets $50, $60 after October 1). The auction showcases a wide variety of items, including getaway weekends, family fun items, gift certificates, artwork, photography package, and a cruise from rFamily Vacations. Proceeds support Rainbow Families programs. For tickets, visit www.rainbowfamilies.org, or call 612-827-7731. Rainbow Families works to build a safe, just, and affirming world for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents and their children.

Cornerstone Presentation

IN LATE JULY, several Quorum members assembled at Lee Roehl's home to familiarize themselves with the Cornerstone Member program. Quorum's Executive Director Sam McClure presented the current state of the organization and an overview of the Cornerstone Member program. She covered the impact Quorum is having on the local GLBTA community with our networking events, the Quorum Community Leadership Awards, our role with National Coming Out Day and the NGLCC, the Q! newsletter, the new Young Professionals group, the Quorum Scholarship Fund, and our business development programs. All present showed significant interest, and several members became Local Leaders that night. For more information on how to become a charter Cornerstone Member, at either the Local Leader or Local Luminary level, or a Quorum sponsor, contact Sam@TwinCitiesQuorum.com.

Many Thanks to Heidi Schreiber

HEIDI SCHREIBER, the longest-serving member on Quorum's Board, will be ending her term this September in light of her work on the Human Rights Campaign board of governors and new position with Transamerica. Says Interim President Lee Roehl, "Heidi has been one of the most open and accepting people. Her sense of humor and productivity made her quite the asset to the Board." Heidi has served as Secretary and most recently as Vice President and Events Chair. The Board extends heartfelt thanks to her for all she has accomplished on behalf of the organization, contributing to its marked growth.
